Grace and Glamour: How Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Redefined Stardom

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's Journey Through Bollywood and Beyond

Aishwarya was born on 1st November 1973 to Krishnaraj Rai, her late father and Vrinda Rai, a house wife, in Mangalore. When she was a kid her father moved to Mumbai along with the family. Aishwarya did her schooling at Arya Vidya Mandir High School and intermediate schooling at Jai Hind College for a year and then joined at DG Ruparel College in Matunga and Aishwarya secured 90% in the HSC exams.

Initially she was interested to make her career in medicine and then she planned to become an architect. Finally she decided to become a model, so she gave up her education in the middle and continued in modelling. Her father along with his wife Vrinda encouraged Aishwarya in every stage of her life, he gave full independence to choose her career and supported her in every angle. In her teenage she got trained in classical dance and music for five years.

In 1991 Aishwarya won an international supermodel contest which was organised by Ford and she was finally featured in the American edition of Vogue. In 1993 she was featured in Pepsi ad along with Aamir Khan and Mahima Chaudary. Her single line dialogue, ‘Hi I'm Sanjana' brought her a big popularity within a short period.

Of course Aishwarya was brilliant beautiful and lucky but her parent's love and support gave her a big push back to achieve a big success. As a model she began her career and won the beauty pageant titles Miss India and Miss World in 1994. In 1997 she had become an actress and she established a big filmy career and achieved a glorious name in the International level also. In 2000s and 2010s she was refered as ‘The most beautiful woman in the world'.

Aishwarya was the loving daughter of her dad. Her father supported her in every step of her success. She was very close to her dad. She never lived separately, she, at all times, had a close bond with her father, even after her marriage in 2007 with actor Abhishek Bachchan because both the families have been living in the same city.

In a 2005 interview with David Letterman, she was questioned about living with her parents as an adult. She had replied boldly and confidently that it is fine in India as they don't have to make oppointments to meet their parents.

Aishwarya was very much attached to her father Krishnaraj Rai. Even after her marriage she has been in close touch with her parents, brother and her sister-in-Law. After her father's demise, she appears to be in a close contact with her mother Vrinda Rai.

On her father's death anniversary she donated free surgeries to 100 children born with cleft lips and palates through Smile Train India.

Since over a decade, as Smile Train’s Global Goodwill Ambassador, Aishwarya Rai has been supporting the International cleft charity and through the Aishwarya Rai Foundation, her father had supported cleft lip and palate surgeries for 100 children in 2014.

November 20th (Universal Children’s Day) is now observed as the ‘Day of Smiles' to celebrate a day of joy and cheer. Every year on this day Aishwarya visits a suburban hospital in Mumbai along with her mother Vrinda and daughter Aaradhya to spend time with cleft children and to encourage the children to live fuller lives and attain their dreams.

On her father’s death anniversary, she shared a throwback pic along with a heartful note on social media. She use to share her pleasant moments experienced with the family on her Instagram account.

So Aishwarya is a complete family person, she has been giving a special status to family life. She has been caring and loving her family. She had a special attachment on her father Krishnaraj Rai. But unfortunately she got separated from her father physically, but not mentally since 18th March 2017, at that time she was 43 years old.

Aishwarya Rai was last seen in the block-buster film Ponniyen Selven II in 2023 and got appreciated for her perfomance for her Nandini's role.

 

Recently she walked on the red carpet on two days, at the Cannes Film Festival 2024, though her hand was injured and she walked with a sling to her right hand. She received big praises for her professionalism. Even her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan accompanied her. Since 2002 she has been participating regularly at the Cannes. In 2002 she arrived for the first time for the premier of film Devdas at the Cannes.
